Our Method
Our ultrasonic underground tank testing method allows the tightness of both the tank and associated pipework to be assessed simultaneously, without the need to open the manhole. This non-intrusive approach minimises disruption while delivering accurate, reliable results.
Ultrasonic tightness testing works by capturing and amplifying the sound generated by leaks when the tank is placed under partial vacuum. Two highly sensitive sensors are used during the test: one positioned within the liquid and the other above the liquid surface.
Using advanced SDT ultrasonic equipment, background noise within the installation is first measured to establish a reference value, expressed in dBµV. The tank is then depressurised, and measurements from each sensor are continuously monitored and compared against this reference.
Diagnosis
All events recorded during the test are displayed in real time via a histogram that tracks data from both sensors. Measurement data can be reviewed directly on the SDT device, providing clear insight throughout the process.
The final diagnosis is confirmed by the operator, who also audibly verifies the presence of any leak by listening to the ultrasonic signal. Recording durations for both measurement data and audio files can be tailored to suit operational requirements, with full flexibility for pauses or adjustments during testing.
